Women, Resistance and Revolution
March 11 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
International Women’s Day was launched in 1909 to celebrate struggles and resistance by working class women.
Over 100 years later women are still fighting for liberation. The election of right wing, misogynisic, transphobic politicians from Donald Trump to Jair Bolsonaro have driven women and others who want to challenge oppression out onto the streets.
Struggles against sexual harassment and for abortion rights have given new life to IWD protests across the globe.
At the same time, nearly 50 years after the Equal Pay Act, women are still suffering huge income inequality in the workplace – recently highlighted by the dispute at the BBC.
Many people are challenging their own ideas about gender and sexuality, and are more willing to challenge others.
But how can we build a collective response to the sexism structured into our society?
Come to this event to discuss how women have fought back across the globe – and to celebrate the socialist tradition of fighting for women’s liberation.
Jan Nielson, revolutionary, trade union activist and campaigner for Women’s rights is the speaker.
