What if the Common Good were the point of our Economy?
Our current economic system is on its head. Money has become an end in itself rather than a means for what really counts: a good life for all. Christian Felber, author of “Change everything: Creating an Economy for the Common Good” and co-founder of the Economy for the Common Good movement
Check out this video of a TEDx talk in Vienna by Christian Felber who modeled the Economy for the Common Good and has written the book Change Everything
Christian Felber is a professor of Economics at the University of Vienna. Together with a group of businessmen, he developed the model known as Economy for the Common Good (or Economy for Public Welfare), a theoretical alternative to Market Capitalism and planned Economy. Lifestyle magazine elected him Communicator of The Year in 2010. Felber has been a professional contemporary dancer since 2004. He is also a lecturer and an advocate of the Economy for the Common Good theory.
The Economy for the Common Good is apparently making great advances in Europe and according to their website, it’s
…economically, a viable, concrete and workable alternative for companies of different sizes and legal structures.
The purpose of an organisation and the evaluation of its success are determined according to values that serve the common good.
…politically, an engine for legal change. The objective of engagement is a good life for all living beings and for the planet, underpinned by an economic system that serves the common good.
Human dignity, global fairness and solidarity, ecological sustainability, social justice and democratic participation are all essential ingredients.
…socially, an initiative to raise awareness for changing the system, based on the collective and respectful actions of as many people as possible.
The movement gives hope and courage, and seeks mutual enhancement and networking with other alternative initiatives.
